Quote of the Day:  As a person thinks in his heart, so is he. ~ Provers 23: 7

Essential Element: Well people don’t necessarily experience any less stress; they simply develop better strategies and coping mechanisms for dealing with it [click here to read Spark Insight: Coping Mechanisms].

Journal:  The battle we wage against our human nature is an invisible one – one that is fought purely in our minds – minute by minute, each hour of each day. In order to move forward, we must choose to think on possibilities and capabilities, rather than probabilities and weaknesses. In your journal today, identify one situation in your life you’d like to improve– then jot down the belief-filled thought process that must go before it in order to make it reality.  [Click here for additional Journal exercises]

Journal:  How do you spend your breath? Are you aware of it? The way you manage your very inhaling and exhaling has tremendous effect on your physiological state of being.  As you are reading this, employ the practice of mindful breathing: Simply inhale deeply and exhale slowly three times.  As stress hits you today, take back your physiological response by utilizing this practice. Deep inhale, slow exhale.  Jot down in your journal tonight when you practiced mindful breathing – and the effect it had.  [Click here for additional Journal exercises]

Essential Element:  We encounter the challenge, struggle, adapt and move forward.  This is the essence of growth. [click here to read Spark Insight: The Value of Struggle]

Kipping Pull-Ups

by admin

  • Swing forward from your hips. As your lower body goes forward, your head and feet should be going backwards and your shoulders should move outwards.
  • As your body swings, drive your hips up.
  • Use your hips and arms to bring your legs up, lifting your body up.
  • Bring your shoulders above the bar. Most of the power should come from driving your hips upwards.
  • Lower back down and continue swinging your hips. As you lower down, push your body away from the bar to set up the swing for the next pull-up.

Deadhang Pullup

by admin

Explore local parks and schools to see if you can find a jungle gym to use.  You can also buy home kits that can be placed in a doorway.

  • Grasp the pull up bar overhead with an overhand grip just outside your shoulders.
  • Engage your shoulders by tightening your shoulder girdle to avoid stress on your joints.
  • From a hanging position pull your body upwards with your arms until your chin clears the top of the bar.
  •  Lower your body until your arms reach full extension and repeat.
